SideFX Houdini _ Full procedural – Iron pyrite
Making a series of mineral studies to step up my procedural skills.
First one is Iron Pyrite, also known as fool’s god (thanks wikipedia looool). Done in sidefx Houdini.
Challenge was breaking up the cube shape to get nice bevel variations, broad breakups while maintaining the base of UVs that would drive the strike pattern in shader.

The complex structure between the crystal and fiber was challenging but a lot of fun to make. Learned a lot about hair to interpolate the different curves among crystals and generate the fiber layer.
